FOJ Stewards to Pacific Crest Hiking Trail

 

Friends of Jawbone supports all multiple-use recreation in the greater Jawbone Canyon area, including many wonderful hiking opportunities. This spring Friends of Jawbone erected step-over barriers at locations where the Pacific Crest Trail trail intersects with OHV trails. These barriers are intended to prevent vehicles from illegally driving on or across the PCT, and the barriers needed to be photographed for FOJ's records.

Newest Addition to Our Fleet

Our fondest appreciation goes out to Honda R&D Americas, Inc for their donation of this box van to Friends of Jawbone. Honda R&D is about being inspired, and carrying your idea through development, design, and production. This van will be used in our quest to provide food and water to this years Moose Anderson Days Event. Thanks again, Honda!

 

 

Snow Brings Excitement to Jawbone Area

The highlight of January for Jawbone had to be the surprise snow. Although it didn't stick along the highway or in the canyon itself, it did blanket all of the surrounding peaks and ridges. The passes into Kelso Valley saw deep snow, as did parts of the El Paso and Rand Mountains.

Jawbone Area Trails for GPS

OHV riders can best protect their trails by staying on the designated routes. The Friends of Jawbone helps by providing area riders with information on where it is legal to ride. We've long published trail maps of the area and made them available for purchase through the Jawbone Canyon Visitors Center.

A First Encounter!

I have been familiar with the local wildlife in Last Chance Canyon since the late Fifties and have met just about every animal that is native to this region. Well, the other day as I was giving a tour of Bickel Camp my guests and I saw the first skunk that have ever seen in the desert.

Plaque dedicated for BLM ranger Bill Ingram

Joshua tree On April 18th 2009, a plaque was dedicated for BLM ranger Bill Ingram among family and friends. Bill was a California city resident who enjoyed the quiet spot near the large Joshua tree for his lunch break at the intersection of BLM R20 and R47.

New Friends of Jawbone Billboard

Jawbone Billboard

Friends of Jawbone unanimously voted to purchase billboard space to welcome the public to Jawbone and California City. The sign is located on highway 14 northbound just out of Mojave. The sign displays our message to “Love Your Desert, Stay On Designated Trails”
