Temporary Closures for R5 and R50 Extended

Dec. 8. Since this Temporary Closure was implemented on October 10th, Friends of Jawbone has been working with the BLM Ridgecrest office to assess the damage caused by Tropical Storm Mario.

During November, the trails were graded and all that remains now is installation of fencing and signs. We are hoping to have this completed as soon as possible so this Temporary Closure can be lifted. We ask that you remain out of these areas for your safety. These specific trails impacted are R5 between Munsey Road R0327 and R10 and R50 between R43 and R5.  Please refer to the updated Temporary Closure Order below. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

 
Oct. 13. The extreme weather event that affected the Jawbone region last month left many trails in need of repair, some of which are now dangerously impassible.
 
Trails in the Rand Mountains suffered especially, including those leading to Randsburg. Potential hazards include drop offs, exposed pipes, and rocks blocking trails. In some places, trails are completely missing.  In cooperation with the BLM, Friends of Jawbone will work as quickly as possible to repair these important recreational trails.
 
In the meantime, the BLM has issued a temporary closure notice for the R5 between Munsey Road and R10, and the R50 between R43 and R5. We will need our heaviest equipment to work in that area, and therefore ask that you avoid R5 and R50, and their intersections with other trails so work is not impeded.
 
There are still many awesome OHV opportunities in the Jawbone region for you, and we think you’ll find it interesting to visit and see how the landscape has changed.  But for everyone’s safety, please use extra caution when driving or riding our Jawbone area roads and trails.
 
And, be sure you have an FOJ map as many directional trail signs were washed away.
